Mission Partnerships

First Church has developed relationships with several agencies and people within the greater Denver area and around the world that minister to specific needs. We support them financially through our General Fund and in person as needs and opportunities arise. Contact Programs & Office Administrator Shirley Van Heukelem at shirley@firstcrcdenver.org.

Cascade of Hope

Victor & Sandra Perez minister to the needs of people in SW Denver by offering ESL, basic computer training, and citizenship classes on weeknights. They also offer other resources that are difficult for recent immigrants to obtain through normal channels because of the language barrier, such as GED and drivers license classes.Victor is an ordained pastor in the Christian Reformed Church. His goal is to establish a multicultural church through reciprocal witnessing of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior that will come together as one body to worship, exalt and glorify God. Cascade of Hope is looking for volunteers to help in a variety of ways, including providing snacks for their evening ESL and computer classes, becoming an ESL or computer instructor or classroom assistant, or simply befriending a person or two who attends these classes.

The Table

Nourishment. Community. Grace. These three values are found most tangibly at the table as we eat, have conversation, and extend hospitality. The Table is a unique church in Denver's Platt Park Neighborhood that values all three by combining urban farming, community meals, and lively conversation in multiple venues. We aim to help people eat well, experience life-giving and authentic community, and explore the depth and breadth of the grace of Jesus Christ. No matter what your background or experience of faith, you're welcome to participate. Feed your body, feed your soul, and feed your community.

En Gedi Children's Home in Athi River, Kenya

Margaret Njuguna is the Founder and Director of En-Gedi Children's Home in one of Nairobi's suburbs. En-Gedi Children's Home is the model in Kenya for best practices in the support and care for children with special needs. It enriches the lives of children with special needs through collaborating with families, government departments, like-minded agencies, faith-based organizations, and corporations to build a continuum of compassionate care.

The overall goal of En-Gedi Children's Home is to provide a home that will offer children with disabilities a healthy and safe environment where they can grow, learn, thrive and develop to their fullest potential. Construction is currently underway to build a larger facility, as God introduces her to families needing refuge at the rate of four calls per week

Currently there are 12 children living at the home, including a new little girl with hydrocephalus (excess fluid on her brain). Margaret says, "While the home is full, my heart for the children has been getting bigger and would like to take in more (especially those who are hidden and tethered behind dark rooms) and thus share God's love and light with more families and more communities." To that end, First CRC was instrumental in helping En-Gedi Children's Home obtain the funds for Phase 1 of a new, larger facility that will eventually house up to 30 children.

Mission Partners in China

First CRC partners with a couple in one of the major cities in China. This couple works hand-in-hand with Christian Chinese nationals to learn more about the culture and the unique needs within the Chinese Christian church. Their goal is to train Chinese nationals in areas such as theology, leadership and service so that they will be able to thrive in their own settings and share the gospel with those around them. Pray that God's presence and protection will surround all those involved in this ministry.
