At First Church

Card Making

Our Card Stampers group was started in 2005, by two First CRC Deacons for relationship evangelism and fellowship. Participants have met once per month on a Saturday afternoon for over 14 years, with more than 50 women enjoying the creative card design process. Approximately 600 cards are created in a year’s time. The cards are offered for free for birthdays, anniversaries, condolences and thank you's. Anyone can choose a card, fill it out and place it in the mailboxes in the foyer, or mail a card to a loved one. Special Holiday cards go into Deacon Thanksgiving baskets and Cookie tins for shut-ins at Christmas.

Each woman that comes is not required to bring or contribute anything, and they are welcome to take home the cards they have made that day. Some of the members have donated cards they have made to various ministries of our church as well as other local ministries.

Global Bazaar

First Church has hosted a global, fair trade market place for the past several years on the first Saturday of December. This one-day event takes the skills and time of at least 50 volunteers. Contact: shirley@firstcrcdenver.org for more information.

Helping Hands

The Helping Hands ministry supplies meals to members, and those they know, who need a little help with food: while recuperating from an illness or surgery, after experiencing a loss, who have just moved, or have difficulty making their own meals. These meals are frozen and placed in the white freezer, labeled "Helping Hands Meals" in the church kitchen. If you would like a meal or would like to contribute food, contact: Joey Vander Ark: joeyvanark@aol.com.

Mentor a new member

Whenever you find yourself in a new environment, it is comforting to have someone familiar with the "layout of the land" to come alongside and offer their experience, wisdom, encouragement and friendship. Contact the office #303.733.4936 if you have the availability to mentor a new member.

Missionary Support Team

This team communicates with each of our missionaries and their families, faithfully remembering birthdays, anniversaries and other special events. They also offer hospitality services to visiting missionaries and are an invaluable link between First Church and her missionaries. If you have an interest in communicating with our missionaries or supporting them in other ways,

contact: Ken Englesman or Al & Kay Bierling: lkbierling@aol.com

Purchase Fair Trade Coffee

We proudly serve Fair Trade coffee at all church events. Fair Trade coffee ensures a fair wage for the small coffee farmers in developing countries. One-pound bags are available for sale in the church foyer. Contact: shirley@firstcrcdenver.org.

Sew and Sews

The Sews & Sews ministry is a group of women who meet twice monthly to sew infant and children's clothing and accessories for special needs groups, such as Denver Health Medical Center, a Haitian orphanage and Bethany Christian Services. New seamstresses are always welcome. In May 2019, Sew & Sews received another Governor's award for sewing nursing cover-ups, receiving blankets and sleep sacks for Newborns at Children's Hospital.

Teaching & Leading

If you want to share the life of Christ with others through teaching or leading adults or children, we have opportunities for you to use your gifts. Our Gems, Cadets youth group and Sunday School classes are led by people with a vision for ministry and heart for Christ. Contact Shirley Van Heukelem (shirley@firstcrcdenver.org) if you have questions or would like to serve in this way.

Worship Arts

At First Church we encourage members of a variety of ages to use their artistic expressions during our worship services, so that God is praised and His church is strengthened. Examples include: presenting scripture, visuals in the worship space, drama, dance, singing, instrumentalists and tech support.

Contact: Kyle Cooper, Worship Coordinator at kylecooper@firstcrcdenver.org if you have gifts or resources that you would like to share in this way.
